The Los Glaciares National Park is located in the region known as Southern Andes Argentine territory, southwest of the province of Santa Cruz on the border with Chile. For its stunning natural beauty, it is a unique wonder in the world, and was declared "World Heritage" by UNESCO in 1981.
In the south side of the Park is the most famous of all glaciers: Perito Moreno Glacier. It owes its fame to its continuous movement, which produces a cyclical phenomenon of advance and retreat with spectacular breakage of ice on its front side.
This is an ideal tour to visit the Perito Moreno Glacier without physical demands and with long time to explore the glacier's balconies/runways, depending on each person's rhythm.
The excursion to the glacier departs around 8.00 am from the hotel in El Calafate, with stops in viewpoints befeore and inside the National Park and a visit to the runways, scenic spot peak.
During the of 80 km from El Calafate to the glacier there is an english speaking guide. At the end of the journey, you arrive at the west end of the Magallanes peninsula, from where after an informational talk, each passenger starts walking on 3kms of runways. These are at different levels and allow you to contemplate the glacier from different angles and balconies. You will have time to walk throughout the runways and watch the Perito Moreno glacier from the forehead. According to your fitness level, you can reach the lower balconies and get closer to the glacier or stay at the top balconies which are easily accessible for anyone.
Once the visit is finished, you return to El Calafate through the same road arriving at the hotel around 15:30 hs.
Season: All year round.
Departures: 7:45 hs.
Durationn: 8 hours.
NOT Included: Lunch, National Park entrance fee.
The tour is a voyage of the Rico Branch where you can see the icebergs that fall from the ice walls of the Perito Moreno Glacier.
This tour lasts approximately 1 hour and offers the possibility to observe a totally different perspective of the stunning Perito Moreno glacier walls and continuous landslides on the waters of Lake Rico.
Once facing the wall, the boat stops for a few minutes to observe the landscape from up close. This is an interesting opportunity for photographs and films.
Boarding of the boat takes place in the "Bajo de las Sombras" port, approximately 6 km from the viewpoint of the glacier.
Season: All Year Round.
Departures: Hourly from 10:00 to 16:00 | From June to September the only departure is 12:00 hs.
Duration: 1 hour.
The tour starts in the "Bajo de las Sombras" port about 6 km. from the viewpoint before the glacier, where you embark to cross Lake Rico, reaching the opposite shore about 20 minutes by boat off the south wall of the Perito Moreno glacier.
After landing you enter the refuge where the guides organize groups each consisting of up to 20 people. Then begins a walk along the lake of about 20 minutes to the glacier. At the edge of the ice the guides put the crampons on the participants, who receive instructions on how they should move on the ice. The route on the glacier takes about two hours, and during the course of it you can enjoy a variety of ice formations such as cracks, seracs, drains, small lagoons, etc.
The hike is moderate. The ice surface over which you walk is irregular, but firm and safe. Explanations are given about the flora, fauna, and general glaciology of the region as well as the particular phenomenon that happens in the Perito Moreno Glacier that eventually produces its rupture. At the end of the walk, you return to the shelter.
Only for ages between 10 and 65 with NO EXCEPTIONS.
Season: From August to May.

Once on the glacier with crampons on, the world takes on a new perspective: blue lagoons, deep cracks, huge sinks, magical caves, and the unique feeling of being in the center of the glacier.
Always accompanied and instructed by experienced guides who will explore with you for three hours (approx.) corners of the world’s most special glacier. During the tour the guide will help you better understand the ice and its surroundings.

Located at the far end of the Cristina Channel on the northwest coast of Lake Argentino, Estancia Cristina stands on a remote corner of the “Los Glaciares” National Park.
Founded in 1914 by Joseph Percival Masters and his wife Jessie, the Estancia still conserves its essence, maintaining alive the history of this pioneering family who through enormous effort and perseverance, turned this inhospitable and solitary place into a small piece of paradise.
Accessible only by boat on Lake Argentino and then on the Cristina Channel, Estancia Cristina stands on an exclusive and privileged setting in the Argentine Patagonia. Strategically built on a glacial valley formerly occupied by the Upsala Glacier, one of the area’s most spectacular natural settings, the Estancia is surrounded by picturesque views of snow-capped mountains, lakes, rivers and hanging glaciers.
The visit to Estancia Cristina begins by navigating the North Arm of the Argentino Lake, enjoying a unique and magical landscape where the Icebergs and the mountains are protagonists. Our boat is the only way to access the valley. Making our visitors protagonists at every moment, transforms the experience into unique and unrepeatable.
Having set sail from Punta Bandera harbor at 9AM, we will glide over the waters of Lake Argentino’s Northern Arm to reach the furthest possible point of navigation in the Upsala Channel, where we can enjoy an incredible panoramic view of the Upsala Glacier’s immense front.
Upon disembarking at the shores close to Estancia Cristina the passengers will be divided according to the hired activity:
An expert guide will welcome visitors and take them on an exciting trek through the surrounding valley. The hike unfolds along an ecotone area, a beautiful, semi-arid place carpeted in native shrubs and grasses. Next, the walk gradually ascends to an elevated lookout point that bestows sweeping views of the valley beyond, over Lake Argentino and Lake Pearson across to the towering Andes Mountains.
From here, continue on a path sloping gently uphill, surrounded by ñire trees, until you reach the highlight of this trek: Los Perros River Waterfall, whose viewpoints not only bestow jaw-dropping vistas, but are also a fantastic spot for observing flowers and plant life especially orchids.
Later on, having returned from the trek, we will visit the Costumbrista Museum, housed in the estancia’s old shearing shed where guests can learn all about the history of the Masters family: their lives, adventures and how they became pioneers in Patagonia. Finally, a guided tour will take lucky visitors around Estancia Cristina’s estate–up to the Caterina River, the waterwheel, chapel and rest of the lodge.
The group are welcomed by our specialized driver-guides who will help them into their 4×4 vehicles, ready to head off into the wilderness.
Our sturdy 4WDs will then venture up into the Feruglio Mountains, a 9.5km ride which offers great views of our surroundings and takes us ultimately to an elevated area where the cars will be parked. Once there, we’ll begin a 20-minute trek over terrain characterized by glacial erosion, until reaching the Upsala Glacier Lookout; an exclusive vantage point for visitors to appreciate this immense glacier that can only be accessed from Estancia Cristina.
There will be plenty of time here to enjoy views of Lake Guillermo and the eastern side of the Upsala Glacier, as well as the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. Afterwards, the groups will head back to the lodge in our 4×4 vehicles, for a well-deserved rest and break for lunch (approx. 1 hour). Later on, having returned from the trek, we will visit the Costumbrista Museum, housed in the estancia’s old shearing shed where guests can learn all about the history of the Masters family: their lives, adventures and how they became pioneers in Patagonia. There will be plenty of time here to enjoy views of Lake Guillermo and the eastern side of the Upsala Glacier, as well as the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, before beginning the 14km trek through Fossil Canyon. The fascinating Cañadón de los Fósiles, which is around 170 million years old, has been named so for its immense concentration of marine fossils, imprints of squid and jellyfish among them, left behind after the last ice age. We can observe a kaleidoscope of colors across this terrain, the canyon’s walls rising beside us as we make a gradual descent until reaching a ravine at the edge of the valley. Along the way, we’ll stop and tuck into our box lunches, before leaving the canyon behindhaving explored it fully, then arriving back at the estancia and later onward to the port.
An expert guide will welcome visitors and take them on an amazing ride. Expect a delightful mix of mountain views, time spent by the lake and birdwatching opportunities on this gentle horseback ride to Cristina Valley, making for an easy but rewarding excursion.
After leaving the Estancia behind, we ride in a northerly direction, heading deeper into nature, cross the Caterina River and pass The Noria: a replica of the original water-powered wheel that was built here in 1945, poplar trees and the house itself. This is a good spot to appreciate the specific type of flora that’s typical of the Patagonian steppe.
Make your way on horseback along pathways covered with loose stone and moss, leading you eventually to an elevated lookout point that bestows sweeping views of the valley. With luck on our side, we may be able to glimpse various species of bird such as the Common and Royal Goose, Black Necked Swan, Coscoroba Swan and Spectacled Duck, among many others. Take your time to absorb this picturesque setting.
Finally, a guided tour will take visitors around Estancia Cristina’s estate – up to the Caterina River, the waterwheel, chapel and the rest of the lodge.
